Obituary: Benjiman Lyle Shriver, 92

Benjiman Lyle Shriver of Orland died peacefully at Bethany Nursing Home in Ripon on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Born in Clio, Iowa, on October 23, 1932, he was a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished friend.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1956 as an Aviation Ordnanceman on the USS Oriskany during the Korean War. While in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Jackie Richardson, who became his wife in June of 1955.

Together, they shared a lifelong bond, both of faith and love. He became a Christian at Youth for Christ and remained a devoted Christian throughout his life, alongside his beloved wife.

When they moved to Orland, they raised their family on their farm. His family was the center of his world, and he treasured each moment spent with them.

He was a postal carrier, dedicating many years to serving his community with pride and kindness. He was known for his fun-loving, compassionate and charismatic nature.

He had a remarkable ability to bring joy to any room. He had a good sense of humor, and his infectious laugh, winks, and positive energy were a gift to those around him.

His sensitive heart and caring spirit left an indelible mark on everyone he met.

He is survived by his children Cathy Riddle (Ron), Karen Reichle (Bill), Donna Mackey (Lenn), Kenny Shriver (Tammy), and Jim Shriver (Rose); 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

They will continue to carry forward the lessons of love, faith, and kindness he instilled in them. He will also be dearly missed by his extended family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie.

A viewing is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, and a Celebration of Life is planned for 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, at the First Christian Church in Orland, where loved ones will gather to honor his memory and the legacy of love, faith, and laughter he leaves behind.

His children “want to thank the staff at Bethany Home for their loving care of our father.”

Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary of Orland.
