Shortly after noon on Tuesday, Dec. 14, Orland firefighters were dispatched to a report of a “vehicle fire” on Highway 32, near County Road P.

A minute or two later, the call became a little more specific: It was reported that it was a “semi fire.”

Then a responder said that it was the trailer that was on fire.

The semi was traveling west on Highway 32 when, unbeknownst to the driver, his brake on the trailer partially locked up.

As the vehicle approached County Road P, the brake area caught fire. The driver pulled over to the north shoulder.

Fortunately, the driver had a fire extinguisher and was able to put out the fire.

When firefighters arrived, they hosed down the trailer to cool off the brakes.

A half-hour or 45 minutes later, the firefighters were able to head back to the station.
