Update on overturned garbage truck

Glenn County Observer

The California Highway Patrol has released information regarding an accident involving a garbage truck that overturned on County Road 24, east of County Road S, on March 9.

At about 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, Enrique A. Rodriguez, 63, of Corning, was driving a 2009 Autocar (garbage truck) west on County Road 24, about a mile east of County Road S, at about 55 miles per hour.

For unknown reasons, Rodriguez turned or allowed the truck to travel in a northerly direction, where it left the paved portion of the road.

The driver steered abruptly to the left in an attempt to reenter the roadway.

The speed and configuration of the truck, in concert with Rodriguez’s steering input, caused the truck to twist to the right as it turned and began traveling in a southwesterly direction.

The truck overturned onto its right side, blocking the eastbound lane of County Road 24.

The roadway was closed until about 5:30 p.m. by emergency personnel in order to facilitate the recovery and removal of the garbage truck.

According to CHP Officer Ovard, the driver of the truck was not injured. He was wearing his seatbelts at the time of the accident.
