Celebration of Life set for Steven Hanks, 71

Steven Nels Hanks died at his home in Orland on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023.

He was born to Dale and Nellie Hanks on Aug. 5, 1951.

A Celebration of Life is planned for 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary of Orland.

Those who are interested in this event are asked to contact Renee Hanks for more information, although no contact information for Ms. Hanks was included in the notice on the mortuary’s website.

Obituary: James Ralph Testerman, 82

Surrounded by his loving family, James Ralph Testerman of Orland died on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023. He was born in Chico on Aug. 30, 1940.

He graduated from Willows High School in 1958. He then worked for the Finch Ranch and attended Shasta College and Chico State, where he received a BS in Agronomy.

While attending college, he was hired by Bailey Farm Supply as a part-time employee. After graduation, he began full-time work as a pest control advisor.

He saw the same company through many name changes as a loyal employee of 36 years while raising a family and running his own farming and livestock operation. His growers and coworkers were valued friends.

He was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Orland. His interests and hobbies included farming, ranching, hunting, fishing, and horse camping.

He could always be found supporting any activity in which his family participated.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara (Reimers); sons Eric (Maite), Keith (Darla) and Todd (Kelly); and grandchildren Wayne, Kate, James, Katharine, Kristyna, Ruby, Olivia, Carter and Reed. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bert and May (Betts) Testerman; brothers Dallas and Richard; and sister-in-law Loretta.

A service is planned for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the First Lutheran Church in Orland, followed by a reception at Memorial Hall in Orland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Lutheran Church of Orland, or a charity of your choice.

Here are the road closures in Glenn County as of 2:09 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, as provided by the Glenn County Department of Public Works:

County Road 25 from County Road F to Road H, due to flooding;

County Road 45 from Old Highway 99 to Road J, due to storm damage;

County Road 48 from the Manville entrance to County Road B, due to flooding;

County Road 49 from west of County Road D to the west end, due to flooding;

County Road 67 from County Road Z to the Butte County line, due to flooding;

County Road 200A from the end of the pavement to 200A in the north, due to washout;

Bridge closed on County Road 306 near County Road 200;

County Road 309, west from the forest boundary, due to weather conditions;

County Road F from Road 68 to the Colusa County Line, due to flooding;

County Road FF between Roads 9 and 200, due to flooding;

County Road G between Roads 9 and 200, due to flooding;

County Road KK between County Roads 49 1/2 and 48, due to flooding;

County Road M from Roads 30 to 33, due to power poles being replaced; and

County Road ZZ from Highway 162 north, due to flooding.

Although rain is forecast through Wednesday evening, the following days are expected to be dry, giving Glenn County’s roads a chance to dry out.
