Two women died Sunday morning when the car they were in traveled off Interstate 5 and collided with a tree.

Glenda Seth Pickering, 62, of Longview, Wash., was driving a 2001 Nissan Sentra south on I-5, north of County Road 39. Her passenger was Judi Rae Jacob, 56, of Kelso, Wash.

According to CHP Officer Shane Roach, at 6:05 a.m. on August 8, he was dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle, rollover accident involving a vehicle into a pole or tree.

Upon arrival, Officer Roach found the Nissan’s driver’s side partially wrapped around the tree.

He attempted to contact the Sentra’s occupants but they did not respond.

Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Police scanner exchanges indicate the Artois Fire Department responded to the scene and, following major extrication efforts, were able to remove the two bodies from the car.

According to the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office, at about 6:31 a.m., Glenn County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene.

Ambulance personnel were also on-scene and pronounced the two women dead at 6:35 a.m.

The bodies of the two women were removed from the scene and transported to Sweet-Olson Family Mortuary of Orland.
