From the Halls of Justice

Here are the latest sentencings in the Glenn County Superior Court, period ending Friday, Sept. 3, as reported by the Glenn County District Attorney’s Office and other sources.

People v. Michael James Phillips – Defendant was convicted of felony corporal injury on a cohabitant. He was sentenced to three years in prison. This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ruby Neumann, with assistance from Glenn County Sheriff’s Detective Johnsen.

People v. Michael Phillips – Defendant was convicted of misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine and possession of a meth pipe. He was sentenced to 120 days in jail. This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Coffey, with assistance from Glenn County Sheriff’s Detective Johnsen and Deputy Ayres.

Sentencing for this case occurred some days before the one mentioned above. The actual crime occurred some months before the one mentioned above, which seems to have occurred in January of this year. On Monday, May 18, 2020, Phillips was booked into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging possession of a controlled substance and possession of controlled substance paraphernalia (both misdemeanors). He was taken into custody on County Road 39, east of Interstate 5.

People v. Christopher Dunham – Defendant was previously convicted of felony second degree burglary of a vehicle and misdemeanor violation of a restraining order and was found in violation of probation. He was sentenced to two years, 180 days in prison and probation was terminated. This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Michael Coffey, with assistance from Glenn County Probation Officer Van Eck.

On July 23, 2018, an employee from Superior Products, 110 County Road 53, reported a white male adult had left the area on a bicycle with some stolen merchandise. Deputy Draper responded and contacted the Superior Products employee, Jaskirat Singh, who reported several cases of beer were taken from an unlocked trailer on the business. The deputy then located Christopher Dunham (53 at the time), who was in possession of the alcohol and admitted to taking the cases of beer. Further investigation recovered additional cases of beer, for a total of 49 cases of Michelob Ultra Beer. Dunham was arrested and booked into the Glenn County Jail for felony grand theft. The total value of the property recovered was $1,275.

People v. Stephen Bakerrubio – Defendant was convicted of felony hit and run causing injury. He was sentenced to 364 days in jail, a drug rehabilitation program, and two years’ probation. This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Coffey, with Glenn County Sheriff’s Deputy Turner and Willows CHP Officer Cushman.

On May 23, 2021, the California Highway Patrol and Glenn County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of County Road 57 and Highway 99 regarding a traffic collision. During the deputies’ response, they were informed that a white male adult fled the area, southbound from the intersection. Deputies arrived on scene and found Stephen Bakerrubio of Redding in the rear parking lot of Swift Trucking. After investigation, it was determined Bakerrubio had collided into the rear of the vehicle being driven by Lusan Price of Willows. Bakerrubio was ultimately taken into custody and booked into the Glenn County Jail.

People v. James Philip Thomas – Defendant was convicted of felony possession of methamphetamine and admitted to felony violation of probation for the third time. He was sentenced to 284 days in jail, drug court, and two years’ probation. This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Coffey, with assistance from Glenn County Probation Officer Moize.

On Nov. 19, 2020, Thomas, of Willows, 32 at the time, was booked by a Glenn County probation officer into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia (a misdemeanor), and felony violation of probation. He was arrested at his home at 613 Fifth Street, Willows.

People v. Aldolfo Garrido – Defendant was convicted of felony unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. He was sentenced to 252 days in jail and two years’ probation. This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Neumann, with assistance from Glenn County Sheriff’s Deputies Chavez and McIntyre.

On Feb. 13, 2021, Abigail Parker of Williams contacted the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office to report her sister-in-law had been sexually assaulted in Afton. Deputy Chavez was dispatched and contacted Parker and the 16-year-old victim. The victim said she was held down and sexually assaulted. Deputy Chavez initiated an investigation. After speaking with all parties, Aldolfo Garrido of Butte City, 24 at the time, was arrested for rape by force, false imprisonment and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. Garrido was transported to Glenn County Jail and booked by jail staff.

People v. Christian Thomas Sandoval-Perez – Defendant was convicted of felony unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. He was sentenced to eight months in prison consecutive to his three-year prison sentence from Tehama County. This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Neumann, with assistance from Glenn County Sheriff’s Deputies Zarate and Alves.

People v. Crystal Rothgery – Defendant was convicted of felony false evidence of registration and found in violation of probation on three separate cases. She was sentenced to 240 days in jail and three years’ probation. This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Neumann, with assistance from Orland Police Officer Lowery and Glenn County Probation Officer Van Eck.

On April 29, 2021, on Fourth Street at Monterey Street, an Orland police officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a white 1998 Honda Civic. Crystal Rothgery, 31, of Corning, was arrested and booked for two felony warrants and two misdemeanor warrants out of Glenn County, along with a false license plate.

People v. Sean Cartwright Poindexter – Defendant was convicted of felony possession of ammunition by a prohibited person and found in violation of misdemeanor probation. He was sentenced to 144 days in jail and two years’ probation. This case was prosecuted by District Attorney Stewart, with assistance from Orland Police Officer Carmon.

On July 25, 2020, at the Speedway station on South Street, an Orland police officer conducted an enforcement stop on a 2001 Ford Expedition. Following an investigation, Sean Poindexter, then-49, of Orland, was arrested and booked for possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, driving on a suspended license and for possession of a syringe.

People v. Cheri Marie Hoover – Defendant was previously (in 2019) convicted of felony battery on a custodial officer and was found in violation of probation for the first time. She was sentenced to 120 days in jail and probation was reinstated. This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Coffey, with assistance from Glenn County Probation Officer Moize.

People v. Khamchanh Sayyaphom – Defendant was convicted of misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine and possession of a meth pipe. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail. This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Coffey, with assistance from Glenn County Sheriff’s Deputy Huichapan.

On Oct. 17, 2019, deputies were dispatched to the area of 545 North Humboldt Avenue, Willows (the Holiday Inn Express), for a report of a suspicious man. The reporting party said an Asian male adult wearing a black and grey hat, a grey hoodie, and black gloves had asked a guest for money and a cigarette. The reporting party believed the man had a handgun. Deputies responded and contacted Khamchan Sayyaphom, 26, of Sacramento, at the Willows ampm convenienc store. Sayyaphom closely matched the description. After an on-scene investigation, Sayyaphom was arrested for drug violations (possession of a meth pipe with meth residue).

People v. Andrew Jacob Burrows – Defendant was found in violation of his post-release community supervision (PRCS) for the first time. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and PRCS was reinstated. This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Coffey, with assistance from Glenn County Probation Officer Perry.

People v. Joshua Pence – Defendant was previously convicted of making annoying or harassing phone calls and/or texts and was found in violation of probation for the second time. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and probation was reinstated. This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Coffey, with assistance from Glenn County Probation Officer Pfyl.

On Jan. 16, 2020, Jennifer Joslyn, 29, reported receiving continual harassing and threatening text messages from Joshua Pence, 40, of Willows. Deputy Tuma was dispatched and contacted Joslin, who said she started receiving texts a month earlier. Joslin agreed to sign a citizen`s arrest form. Deputy Tuma contacted Pence at 840 Baywood Way in Willows. Pence was placed under arrest for harrassing text messages and violation of probation. Pence was transported to the Glenn County Jail, where he was released to jail staff.
