New Year’s stabbing south of Orland

The new year did not start out well for Glenn County law enforcement officers.

Or for at least two others in the county, for that matter.

At about 1 a.m. on January 1, officers responded to a report of a stabbing at a location on County Road 20, south of Orland.

Glenn County dispatchers initiated a “Code 33” ( only absolutely necessary communications on the police channel).

At 1:06 a.m., the fire dispatcher in Corning called for Orland Fire Department volunteers to “stage for medical” at 6371 County Road 20.

Orland Police Sergeant Sean Johnson stated he was “Code 4” (okay), but a short time later another law enforcement officer reported that “irate people here are not listening to orders.”

In the background could be heard several agitated people who were shouting.

Deputies began converging on the scene.

At 1:11 a.m., Orland Fire Department Unit #23 announced it was responding.

A minute later, Unit #23 was cleared to enter the scene for one stabbing victim and another victim “with unknown injuries.”

The Enloe FlightCare helicopter was requested.

The Code 33 was canceled.

Unit #23 asked for address confirmation.

The fire dispatcher repeated it as 6371 County Road 20.

Unit #23 said they were unable to find the address.

The fire dispatcher checked with Glenn County Communications, then updated the address as 6751 County Road 20 with a “cross of [County Road] MM.”

It was reported that Westside Ambulance personnel were at the scene.

The second victim was revealed to have a head injury.

Unit #23 arrived at the scene at 1:23 a.m.

Westside Ambulance sought confirmation that the air ambulance was requested.

Fire dispatch answered in the affirmative, but added that it was responding out of the Oroville area.

Westside asked if there was an estimated time of arrival, but the dispatcher replied that he was still waiting for a call back.

Orland Fire Unit #31 arrived at 1:24 a.m.

Unit #40 reported there were two patients, one a victim of stabbing and the other a victim of a head injury.

Westside personnel requested another ground unit.

At 1:30 a.m., Unit #40 released Unit #31 from the scene.

Three minutes later, Unit #40 announced that “all units are available and returning [to the station].”

A short time later, a law enforcement officer reported that Westside Ambulance was transporting two patients by ground ambulance.

It is presently unknown who the victims are, what the extent of their injuries are, whether there are any suspects and, if so, who they are and whether they have been arrested.
