The driver of a semi suffered moderate injuries, according to police scanner chatter late Friday morning, after the vehicle crashed into a tree and rolled over on Interstate 5, south of Artois.
The semi was totaled.
According to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information webpage, the accident occurred at about 10:43 a.m. on April 7, on the northbound side of I-5, near County Road 39.
More precisely, the crash seemed to be near the northbound Willows Rest Area, north of Road 39.
Emergency responders included Artois Fire Department volunteers, Glenn County Sheriff’s deputies, CHP officers, and Enloe Ambulance personnel.
The CHP incident page twice states that the semi and trailer rolled over after hitting the tree.
At 10:56 a.m., the CHP page says that the semi sustained major damage.
Both the cab and the engine separated from the frame.
Produce was scattered all over the right shoulder of the northbound freeway.
The semi driver was transported by ground ambulance to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
At about 11:20 a.m., the ambulance was heard heading east on East Walker Street in Orland, traveling through the Papst Avenue intersection on its way to Chico.
Glenn County Animal Control picked up a dog at the scene, which presumably belonged to the semi driver.
The CHP webpage described the dog as “gentle.”
Most of the emergency responders gradually began to leave the scene; however, other workers were still cleaning up the wreckage well after 5 p.m.
