Emil Richard “Rick” Wagenman, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, Army veteran, and proud Maidu, died peacefully on Monday, December 23, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories. Born on November 3, 1948, he served his country with honor in the Army, with decorations including a National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter M14.
He dedicated himself to the values of service and sacrifice. His time in the military shaped the man he became: disciplined, resilient, and deeply committed to the well-being of others.
Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Karen, with whom he shared a bond built on years of love, respect, and shared adventures. Together, they enjoyed many special moments, from peaceful beach trips to quiet mornings with coffee and conversation.
Their love was the foundation of a beautiful family.
He was also a proud father to his adult children, Ashley and Jeremiah. He leaves behind a legacy of love and wisdom, which will be carried on by his 12 adoring grandchildren.
One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren, whether telling them stories, playing games, or simply sharing quiet moments together or secretly feeding them candy. His storytelling brought joy and laughter, creating lasting memories for all who were fortunate enough to listen.
In addition to his family, he had a passion for collecting “antiques”, finding joy in the beauty of the past and the stories each item held. His love for life extended to his friends, with whom he spent many mornings over coffee, sharing stories and camaraderie.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; sisters Shirley and Dolly; daughter Ashley; son Jeremiah; and his beloved grandchildren. He was also cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, friend Glenn Truitt, and extended family.
His presence in their lives will be greatly missed, but his love and spirit will continue to guide and inspire them.
Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, at the Willows Cemetery. A potluck-style Celebration of Life is to immediately follow at the Ark Christian Center in Willows.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to https://everloved.com/life-of/rick-wagenman/ in Rick’s honor.
“Rest in peace, Rick,” say his loved ones. “Your love, strength, and memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know you.”
