A woman died Sunday morning following a single-vehicle traffic accident north of Artois.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic incident page, a call was received at 6:48 a.m. of a “vehicle vs. pole” collision at Highway 99 and County Road 27.
The Glenn County Sheriff’s communications center began dispatching emergency responders at about 6:51 a.m.
The sheriff’s dispatch told a responding deputy, “Be advised, I do have 11-41 [ambulance] and fire enroute.”
She then added, “He did say the male was on the ground next to the vehicle, not breathing.”
A slightly more precise location was given for the accident: “99, north of 27.”
At 6:53 a.m., Artois fire vehicle 61 was reported to be responding.
A deputy stated that the pole involved was a power pole, with “lines down, covering the roadway.”
The dispatcher told the responding firefighters to acknowledge the hazard at the accident scene. They did so.
The CHP traffic incident page stated that at 7:10 a.m., “Both lanes blocked pole down and wires across both lanes”.
At 6:55 a.m., firefighters with Artois Fire Department Rescue Unit 79 said they were responding. Vehicle 75 responded seconds later.
A deputy said the person next to the vehicle was an “X-ray” (coptalk for “woman”) and she was “unresponsive”.
“CPR in progress,” the deputy added.
Rescue 79 arrived at the scene at 6:59 a.m. Unit 75 arrived a short time later.
The accident victim was pronounced deceased at 7:04 a.m.
Moments later, a deputy asked the dispatcher if there was an ETA for PG&E.
The dispatcher replied that the ETA was 30 minutes.
At approximately 7:13 a.m., F.D. Sweet and Son Mortuary was called to the scene.
At 7:26 a.m., Artois fire volunteers were released from the scene. At 7:33, they were “back in quarters.”
The vehicle involved in the accident, which reportedly sustained major damage, was removed from the scene by L&T Towing.
Assuming that the weather conditions at Highway 99 and County Road 27 were the same as the conditions in Orland at that time, it was rainy and the road was wet. This is all the information that was available as of mid-afternoon on Sunday.
