Urijah David RedHawk Potter died in Willows on Sunday, April 27, 2025. He was born to Cody Potter and Kailee Beck on December 23, 2023.
Urijah embodied the essence of love and light, illuminating the lives of his family, friends, and the community. He cherished his parents, siblings, grandparents, many aunts, uncles, and cousins, spreading joy and warmth wherever he went.
He loved music, dancing, and playing with his drum and piano. A water baby at heart, Urijah loved rivers, lakes, oceans, and his “splish-splash” (bath time).
He loved new adventures and exploring. His chunky cheeks, captivating one-dimple smile, and sweet laughter left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who met him.
Urijah loved everything from Sesame Street to his cars, trucks, dinosaurs, playing Peek-A-Boo and catch.
Though his journey was cut short by neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer diagnosed in October 2024, Urijah’s spirit remained unbroken, inspiring strength and resilience in those around him.
“Until we meet our brave warrior again,” say his loved ones, “we take comfort in the knowledge that his love, light, and legacy will continue to touch hearts and inspire hope. May his shining spirit continue to radiate strength and guidance.”
Urijah is survived by his parents, Cody Potter and Kailee Beck; siblings Cassidy-Rae Smith, Josiah, Nakima, and Ila Potter; grandmothers Alisha Beck and Jennifer VonBrant; uncles Cedrick Potter, Dylan Beck, and Richard Grant; and aunts Aariana Nelson and Mekayla Beck.
His loved ones find comfort in the faith that “as Urijah embarks on his next journey, he will be reunited with our creator and many loved ones, leaving behind a trail of limitless love, laughter, and cherished memories.”
A celebration of his life is planned for 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, at the Karuk Tribal Housing Authority, 1836 Apsuun Road, Yreka.
Cecilia “Chechi” Fragoso died peacefully in her home in Willows on the morning of Tuesday, April 29, 2025, following a battle with cancer that she faced with remarkable strength and grace.
She received her diagnosis in October of 2024. Throughout her journey, her unwavering love and commitment to her family inspired everyone around her, and will long continue to provide comfort and motivation.
She was born and raised in Colusa to Ralph and Mary Castanon on July 9, 1953. She graduated from Colusa High School in 1972, and shortly after married her lifelong love, Lorenzo Fragoso, celebrating 53 incredible years together in February.
After a brief time in Ukiah, they made Willows their home for 49 beautiful years. There, they raised four daughters and nurtured numerous grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Lorenzo Fragoso; daughters Lorina of Willows, Francisca of Willows, Leticia (Rafael) of Richvale, and Fabiana (William) of Santa Clarita; grandchildren Casara, Elias, Maria, Adriana, Noah, Owain, Sage, Xavier, Alejandro, Gabriel, Lila, Lincoln, Jonah, Teddy, and Stella; great-grandchildren Jayden, Alina, Nevaeh, Leighana, Brooklynn, Matteo, Cecilia, Elisea, K’otisa, Kae’Lani, and soon-to-be-born Sophia; and siblings Susanna Knighten and Ralph Castanon, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Ralph S. Castanon; and sister Louana Powell.
A celebration of her beautiful life is planned for 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, at the Colusa Veterans Hall, 108 East Main Street. Her loved ones encourage all to “cherish the memories and the light Cecilia shared with us.”
They find comfort in the biblical quote, “And the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7).
Gregory Lee Harrouff died unexpectedly at his home in Orland on Friday, April 25, 2025. He was born in Louisiana, Missouri, to Bobbie Nell White and Roscoe Burton Harrouff on March 6, 1954.
He was a graduate of Grand Prairie High School, Class of 1972.
Greg found peace in nature, photographing beauty while riding his motorcycle. Whether he was riding in the hills or on the racetrack, riding was more than a pastime for him. It was where he could relax and reflect on life.
He was an animal whisperer. Throughout his life, animals, particularly cats, would go to him for love and pets.
His love for motorcycles, animals, and family were unwavering. He will be remembered as a quiet, contemplative, and loving man.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters Jessica and Michelle; and beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Baxter.
Services are planned for 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, at Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary, 825 A Street, Orland.
A resident of the Grindstone Rancheria was shot Thursday afternoon, May 8.
Reportedly, the woman who called in the incident was told by the victim that he did not know who the shooter was.
Scanner chatter indicated the victim was shot in the side.
Glenn County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, as did emergency medical personnel, although they were initially told to stage away from the crime scene until law enforcement cleared it.
The Reach 12 air ambulance was also called. The helicopter was on the ground at 2:45 p.m.
A Glenn County Sheriff’s sergeant was heard telling a sheriff’s detective, “[The shooting] may have occurred in [the victim’s] front yard. Not sure, but maybe.”

7:35 a.m., Jaden Heaven Whitehorse, 18, of Corning, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging using or being under the influence of a controlled substance (a misdemeanor). Bail was set at $0. She was taken into custody at the Pilot Travel Center, 4444 Commerce Lane, by an Orland police officer.
According to the Orland Police Department’s log, at about 7:18 a.m. on May 2, 2025, Orland police officers were dispatched to the Pilot Travel Center, 4444 Commerce Lane, to check the welfare of a female who appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Officers contacted Jaden Whitehorse, 18, of Corning, who said her ride had left her at the business. Following an investigation, Whitehorse was arrested and booked for allegedly being under the influence of a controlled substance.
3:30 p.m., Ulises Jaime Tadeo, 19, of Red Bluff, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on a Glenn County warrant alleging failure to appear on a felony charge. Bail was set at $30,000. He was booked into the jail by a Tehama County law enforcement officer.
According to the Orland Police Department’s log, at about 7:02 p.m. on August 15, 2024, on Swift Street at A Street, Orland police officers contacted a 17-year-old boy from Redding and Ulises Tadeo, 18, of Red Bluff. Following an investigation, the juvenile was cited for possession of alcohol. Tadeo was arrested and booked for allegedly carrying a loaded and concealed firearm in a public place.
According to Glenn County Superior Court records, Tadeo pled guilty to the firearm violation on February 7, 2025.
Saturday, May 3:
11:49 a.m., Jennifer May Shockley, 33, of Willows, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on a Glenn County Superior Court warrant alleging disobeying a court order, and disorderly conduct (both misdemeanors). Bail was set at $10,000. She was taken into custody at 420 Green Street, Willows, by a Glenn County Sheriff’s deputy.
According to the Glenn County Sheriff’s log, at about 11:42 a.m. on May 3, 2025, John Lynch contacted the sheriff’s office, reporting that Willows transient Jennifer Shockley was at his residence at 420 Green Street and she was not allowed to be there. Deputy Tuma was dispatched and spoke with Lynch, who said Shockley had stayed at the residence in the past but was not currently staying there. Shockley was found to have an outstanding warrant for her arrest out of Glenn County. Shockley was placed under arrest for the warrant and advised to not return to the residence. Shockley was transported to the Glenn County Jail, where she was released to jail staff for booking.
9:25 p.m., Alexia Reynah Camacho, 27, of Colusa, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (a misdemeanor). Bail was set at $5,000. She was taken into custody on Highway 162 at Eureka Street, Butte City, by a California Highway Patrol officer.
Sunday, May 4:
6:35 p.m., Anita Littledove Fred, 35, of Elk Creek, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (a misdemeanor), driving while under the influence of alcohol (a misdemeanor), and willful cruelty to a child which could result in injury or death (a felony). Bail was set at $210,000. She was taken into custody at Phils Way, #10, Grindstone Rancheria, by a Glenn County Sheriff’s deputy.
According to the Glenn County Sheriff’s log, at about 4:40 p.m. on May 4, 2025, Anita Fred called the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office to report child custody issue at 3600 County Road 305, #7, in Elk Creek. Deputies responded and contacted Joseph Peters, Anita Fred, and their juvenile children. Deputies initiated an investigation.
6:44 p.m., Joseph Allen Lee Peters, 36, of Elk Creek, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging trespassing (a misdemeanor). Bail was set at $0. He was also booked on two Glenn County Superior Court warrants alleging failure to appear on misdemeanor charges (possession of methamphetamine, and possession of controlled substance paraphernalia). Total bail was set at $40,000. He was taken into custody at Phils Way, #7, Grindstone Rancheria, by a Glenn County Sheriff’s deputy.
According to the Glenn County Sheriff’s log, at about 6:57 p.m. on May 4, 2025, deputies were dispatched to a call for service regarding a disturbance at the Grindstone Rancheria in Elk Creek. Deputies learned Joseph Peters had two local misdemeanor warrants. Deputies placed Peters under arrest for the local warrants, and he was transported to the Glenn County Jail for booking.
9:12 p.m., Gilberto Camolinga-Maldonado, 47, of Corning, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and driving while under the influence of alcohol (both misdemeanors). Bail was set at $10,000. He was taken into custody at First and Shasta Streets by an Orland police officer.
According to the Orland Police Department’s log, at about 8:46 p.m. on May 4, 2025, an Orland police officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop on Tehama Street at Sixth Street on a white 2021 Honda Accord. Following an investigation, Gilberto Camolinga, 48, of Corning, was arrested and booked for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Very early one morning some weeks ago, the following exchange during a field interrogation – or something very similar to this exchange – was heard on police scanners here in Glenn County.

Monday, April 28:
11:08 a.m., Kenneth Charles King, 63, of Orland, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging public intoxication, and disobeying a court order (both misdemeanors). Bail was set at $0. He was also booked into the jail on a Butte County Superior Court warrant alleging driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (a misdemeanor). Bail for the warrant was set at $20,000. He was taken into custody at 92 North Sixth Street by an Orland police officer.
According to the Orland Police Department’s log, at about 10:44 a.m. on April 28, 2025, Orland police officers were dispatched to the Liberty Bell Apartments at 92 Sixth Street to check the welfare of a man who had fallen. Officers contacted Kenneth King, 63, of Orland. Following an investigation, King was arrested and booked for alleged public intoxication and violation of his probation terms.
Tuesday, April 29:
1:02 p.m., Phillip Monroe Pedro III, 47, of Orland, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on a Glenn County warrant alleging failure to appear on a felony charge (carrying a concealed dirk or dagger), and a Butte County warrant alleging identity theft (a felony). Total bail was set at $23,000. He was taken into custody near Walgreens, 828 Newville Road, Orland, by a Glenn County Sheriff’s deputy.
According to the Glenn County Sheriff’s log, at about 12:55 p.m. on April 29, 2025, Deputy Ayres conducted a traffic enforcement stop near Walgreens, 828 Newville Road, Orland, on a blue Chevrolet truck for California Vehicle Code violations. The deputy contacted the driver, Phillip Monroe Pedro III of Orland, and passenger, Lisa Heavrin, also of Orland. Pedro was found to have two felony warrants for his arrest. Pedro was arrested and the vehicle was released to Heavrin. Pedro was transported to the Glenn County Jail to be booked.
Wednesday, April 30:
9:58 a.m., Breanna Ruth Cross, 33, of Orland, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging unlawful possession or use of tear gas or a tear gas weapon by a person previously convicted of a felony (a felony), possession of a controlled substance (a misdemeanor), possession of controlled substance paraphernalia (a misdemeanor), and driving without a license (a misdemeanor). Bail was set at $10,000. She was taken into custody at Sixth and Colusa Streets by an Orland police officer.
According to the Orland Police Department’s log, at about 9:41 a.m. on April 30, 2025, an Orland police officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop on Sixth Street at Colusa Street on a gray 2007 Mazda V3. Following an investigation, Breanna Cross, 33, of Orland, was arrested and booked on charges alleging being a felon in possession of pepper spray, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while unlicensed.
4 p.m., Justise Lynn Howell, 28, of Willows, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging obstructing or resisting a public service officer (a misdemeanor). Bail was set at $0. She was also booked into the jail on a Glenn County warrant alleging failure to appear on misdemeanor charges (possession of a controlled substance, using or being under the influence of a controlled substance, and possession of controlled substance paraphernalia). Bail for the warrant was set at $20,000. She was taken into custody at 190 North Merrill Avenue, Willows, by a Glenn County Sheriff’s deputy.
According to the Glenn County Sheriff’s log, at about 3:56 p.m. on April 30, 2025, Deputy Ayres attempted to stop a bicyclist at 201 North Lassen Street, Willows, for California Vehicle Code violations. The bicyclist failed to stop and pedaled west through the Willows High School parking lot. Deputy Ayres found the bicyclist hiding behind a large bush at 190 North Merrill Avenue. The woman was arrested for resisting or delaying a peace officer in his duties. The woman was identified as Justise Howell, who was found to have a local misdemeanor warrant. Howell’s property was turned over to a family member. Howell was transported to Glenn County Jail to be booked.
7:50 p.m., Christopher Scott Borden, 63, of Orland, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging threatening to commit a crime with intent to terrorize (a felony), and misdemeanor battery. Bail was set at $150,000. He was taken into custody at 7463 County Road 19, Orland, by a Glenn County Sheriff’s deputy.
According to the Glenn County Sheriff’s log, at about 7:04 p.m. on April 30, 2025, deputies responded to 7463 County Road 19 in the Orland area for secondhand information Christopher Borden brandished a knife on Jim Manning. An investigation was conducted. Borden was ultimately arrested on charges alleging battery and making criminal threats. Borden was booked into the Glenn County Jail.
The next morning, at about 9:51 a.m., Christopher Borden requested assistance in the 7400 block of County Road 19. Borden returned to his residence and found an access gate was locked with someone else’s lock. Borden believed the landlord or other property tenant locked him out. Deputy Rasmussen responded and contacted the involved parties. Jim Manning said the gate was locked due to Borden being incarcerated the previous night. Manning had the gate unlocked and Borden then had access to the property.
10:37 p.m., Thomas Patrick Macias, 56, of Thermalito, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on a Glenn County warrant alleging misdemeanor assault. Bail was set at $0. He was taken into custody at the Pilot Travel Center, 4444 Commerce Lane, by an Orland police officer.
According to the Orland Police Department’s log, at about 10:32 p.m. on April 30, 2025, Orland police officers were dispatched to a report of man trespassing at the Pilot Travel Center, 4444 Commerce Lane. Officers contacted Thomas Macias, 56, of Oroville. Macias was arrested and booked for a misdemeanor Glenn County warrant.
Thursday, May 1:
8 a.m., Oscar Javier Negrete, 36, of Pittsburg, California, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on a Glenn County Superior Court warrant alleging failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge. Bail was set at $30,000. He was taken into custody at the West County Detention Facility, 5555 Giant Highway, Richmond, California, by a Glenn County Sheriff’s deputy.
8:25 a.m., Bassam Victor Atallah, 46, of Oakland, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging indecent exposure (a misdemeanor). Bail was set at $0. He was taken into custody on Highway 45 at County Road 66 by a California Highway Patrol officer.
According to the Glenn County Sheriff’s log, at about 8:58 a.m. on May 1, 2025, the California Highway Patrol requested assistance from the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office regarding a man with no pants jumping at vehicles in the area of Highway 45 and County Road 64. Sgt. Johnsen and Deputy Ayres responded to assist.
11 a.m., Meleah Renee Valderrabano, 49, of Willows, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on two Glenn County Superior Court warrants, one alleging failure to appear on a felony charge, and the other alleging failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge. Total bail was set at $70,000. She was taken into custody at the Sycamore West Apartments, 1333 West Sycamore Street, Willows, by a Glenn County probation officer.
1:20 p.m., Edward George Welsh, 67, of Orland, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, and violation of probation (both misdemeanors). Bail was set at $7,000. He was taken into custody at 325 Central Street, Orland, by a Glenn County probation officer.

James Stanley Mitchell of Hamilton City was born on October 2, 1917. Sources indicate he died in the Philippines in a World War 2 prisoner of war camp controlled by the Japanese on January 7, 1943. His remains were recently identified and were brought back to Northern California, passing through Hamilton City. He is to be buried alongside family members in Los Molinos.

A person whose name was withheld, possibly because next of kin had not been notified, died in the Capay District.
A 2004 Toyota rearended another 2004 Toyota Saturday afternoon on Highway 32 west of Orland, sending the latter vehicle airborne.
According to a press release from the Willows Area Office of the California Highway Patrol, at about 2:40 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 17-year-old “Aliyah G.” of “Glenn County” [the teen’s name was improperly withheld from the public; the teen was not accused of committing a crime, which would be the only valid reason for withholding her identifying information], was driving a gold Toyota Camry east on Highway 32, just east of County Road N.
Ahead of the Camry, Albert Kobrovskii, 37, of Carmichael, was driving his white Toyota Avalon east on Highway 32, slowing and possibly coming to a stop.
According to CHP Officer Rice, due to the teen driver’s unsafe speed for the current (wet) road conditions, the girl was unable to stop before the front end of the Camry struck the rear end of the Avalon.
The impact launched the Avalon over a dirt embankment, causing the Toyota to become airborne before coming to a rest.
Kobrovskii was transported to Enloe Medical Center for treatment of his suspected minor injuries.
Neither Aliyah G. nor her passenger, 16-year-old “Anahi O.” of “Glenn County” [as with Aliyah G., Anahi O.’s identifying information was also improperly withheld from the public], was injured.
All three of the involved parties were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Virginia “Jinny” Lee Anderson (née Harris) of Elk Creek died suddenly on Saturday, April 12, 2025. She was born in Colusa to Homer and Virginia Harris of Stonyford on April 18, 1943.
She resided in the Stonyford/Elk Creek communities her entire life, graduating from Elk Creek High School.
In 1963, she married her high school sweetheart, Ed Anderson of Elk Creek. Last November, they shared their 61st wedding anniversary.
She loved her family very much, and enjoyed spending time traveling and watching baseball with her husband. She was an avid Cubs fan.
She had a passion for Buffalo, reading, puzzle books, and searching for and polishing rocks.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ed Anderson of Elk Creek; children Laurie (Ken) Thomas of Byrdstown, Tennessee, Scott (Sandy) Anderson of Rigby, Idaho, and Angel Senn of Sultan, Washington; sister Geraldine (Ken) Peterson of Oakhurst; brothers Vern (Lesley) Harris of Australia, and William Harris of Pinole; grandchildren Lacey(Brian) Cinkutis, Wesley Thomas, Dusty (Tahnee) Thomas, Hayley (Garret ) Bucher, Colby Anderson, Timmy (Sadie) Hall, Mark Hall, Ian, Annabelle, and Abby Senn; great-grandchildren Bailey (Cody) Langford, Brooke-Lynn and Peyton Coy, Tatiana Simms, Kaleb and Levi Cinkutis, Aidyn and Sylis Thomas, Casey and Gavin Thomas, Gracelyn, Riverlyn and Maelyn Bucher, and Austin Senn; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.
