Pursuit of motorcycle ends in Hamilton City

Anthony Jesus Jimenez, 48

By Larry Judkins

Glenn County Observer

At times reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour, a Monday evening chase involving the CHP and a motorcycle began at one end of Glenn County and concluded at another.

Glenn County California Highway Patrol officers took up the pursuit at about 8:47 p.m. on Interstate 5 at County Road 57.

The vehicles initially headed south on I-5, approaching the Colusa County line. The motorcyclist at some point headed east.

A Glenn County dispatcher, monitoring the CHP dispatches and relaying them to Glenn County law enforcement officers, remarked, “Sounds like they are northbound on [Highway] 162. They passed [County Road] 48.” The vehicles continued north on Highway 45.

The Glenn County Sheriff’s dispatcher, still listening to the CHP’s dispatches regarding this incident, relayed to deputies and Orland police that the motorcycle was possibly running out of gas or developing mechanical problems and was beginning to slow down. Orland Police Officer Thomas Roenspie and his K-9, Dutch, were heading toward the pursuit, per CHP’s request.

In Hamilton City, the vehicles headed east on Highway 32. They were almost through the town when the motorcyclist turned south on Sacramento Avenue and stopped.

The Glenn County Sheriff’s dispatcher relayed the information, “The rider is getting off, non-compliant – and they have their guns out.” He was soon taken into custody by CHP officers.

At a time listed in the jail’s news release as 9:30 p.m., the motorcyclist, now identified as Anthony Jesus Jimenez, 48, a laborer who lives in Chico, was booked into the Glenn County Jail on charges alleging evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for safety (a felony), driving without a license (a misdemeanor), possession of a narcotic controlled substance (a misdemeanor), and possession of a controlled substance (a misdemeanor). His bail was set at $35,000.

Responding to an inquiry on the Orland/Glenn County Crime page on Facebook, “Anybody know what all the sirens are for in Orland and Hamilton right now?”, a Destiney Jimenez answered that she had driven by the incident and had “seen CHP with the down bike.” (Regarding the Orland sirens, at the same time the chase was going on, there was a vehicle fire at the car wash at East and Walker Streets.)

She also wrote, “CHP had a chase with a guy on a motorcycle a little bit ago. The guy wrecked the bike. Not sure if he was caught or not.”

She added, “It was across from the gas station [the Double EE Market] at Highway 32 and Sacramento Avenue. This was around 9:30 tonight.”

A call to the Glenn County Jail Wednesday morning revealed that Anthony Jimenez is no longer an inmate there.
