Carlos Charles Galvan died on Sunday, March 6, 2022. The fourth of six children, he was born to Angelita and Robert Galvan on Jan. 14, 1960.
He attended Orland High School and was an outstanding athlete, excelling in both football and wrestling. He was the recipient of many awards for the two sports.
On August 4, 1984, he married his lifelong love and partner, Sondra. Together they raised two sons, Nick and Darron, also excellent athletes.
His love of sports was a great asset, as he coached Nick and Darron, and hundreds of others, in football, wrestling and baseball.
In 2004, Carlos accepted the challenge of owning a business when he and Sondra became proprietors of Andy’s Butcher Block in Orland. Under his ownership, the shop moved to a bigger, stand-alone location, and has continued to thrive.
He is famous throughout the North State for his tri-tip barbecue, which he prepared every Friday for 18 years. Andy’s Butcher Block sandwiches are well-known, but most famous are the Friday Tri-Tip Specials.
He always shared his fun-loving way of living, loving to be with his family more than anything else. When his granddaughters Kenzie and Kylee were born, he was bursting with pride, joy and love.
He also loved hunting, fishing, and most any outdoor activity. Recently, with his son Nick, his love for woodworking was reignited and they created new masterpieces made of wood.
He always enjoyed spending time with his many friends and his family.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Sondra; son Nick (Shayla) of Orland; granddaughters Kenzie and Kylee, both of Orland; brothers Edgar (Mary) of Orland, and Abraham (Abe) of Chico; sister Martha Osby of Chico; sisters-in-law Jackie Kaps of Deer Park, Wash., and Rosie (Steve) Vance of Chico; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Darron; mother, Angelita; and sisters, Teresa Pete and Leticia Lawley.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Orland, followed by interment at the Orland Cemetery. A reception is set to follow at St. Dominic’s Parish Hall.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary of Orland.
