A Bay Area man lost his life late Monday night when the car he was driving left County Road 39 and hit an oak tree.
At about 11:05 p.m. on Monday, June 6, Lennie Andrew Dombach, 23, of Martinez, was driving a 2006 Toyota Avalon west on County Road 39, east of County Road S, at an unknown speed. For unknown reasons, the driver allowed the Toyota to drift off the north side of the road onto the gravel shoulder while the vehicle was entering a curve in the roadway.
The back end of the Toyota began to rotate in a counterclockwise direction while sliding south across the east- and westbound lanes. The Toyota then left the roadway to the south, where the passenger side struck an oak tree, bringing the vehicle to a stop.
California Highway Patrol officers, Glenn County Sheriff’s deputies, fire department volunteers, and Butte EMS responders were all dispatched to the accident.
Dombach, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing his seatbelts at the time of the collision with the tree.
The CHP conducted an accident investigation while Deputy Gonzalez conducted a coroner’s investigation.
The decedent was released to the care of F.D. Sweet and Son Mortuary of Willows. The Martinez Police Department assisted with contacting next of kin.
Anyone with further information is asked to contact CHP Officer Taylor at 530-934-5424.
TJ Royce Morrison following his arrest by Corning police officers.
By Larry Judkins
Glenn County Observer
An Artois man, well known to Glenn County law enforcement personnel, was arrested in Corning on Sunday for drug and firearm violations.
On June 5, Corning police officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a man eventually identified as TJ Royce Morrison, 28, of Artois. Morrison was riding a 2005 Honda motorcycle with a flat rear tire and no license plate.
After the stop, Morrison allegedly falsely identified himself to officers. His true identity was discovered and it was found he had several felony and misdemeanor warrants for his arrest.
A Corning police K-9 guards a confiscated firearm, drugs, and paraphernalia following the arrest of TJ Royce Morrison of Artois.
During the traffic stop, officers noticed a handgun protruding from Morrison’s waistband. A search of his backpack produced about 18 grams (almost two-thirds of an ounce) of methamphetamine, packaging materials, drug paraphernalia, and approximately $1,200.
Morrison was arrested and booked into the Tehama County Jail by Corning Police Officer Corry for charges alleging possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle in public, and transportation of a controlled substance (all felonies).

A ceremony dedicating a monument and sculpture to the memory of Orland’s soldiers who died while on active duty was held in town on Monday, Memorial Day.
The event took place on the lawn in front of the main entrance of the Orland Memorial Hall. A very large audience attended the ceremony.
The monument consists of a granite base that bears the names of 63 men who lived in Orland at least part of their lives. Atop this granite base is a sculpture of a riderless horse led by a soldier.

The statue is the work of Orland artist Ulises Meza.
Early on, the late Bob Pasero was a powerful force for the memorial. The Motor-Icicle runs and other fundraisers promoted by the former Orland Chief of Police helped to turn the vision into a reality.
More than one person at Monday’s event expressed regret that Pasero was not able to see the completed work.
The organization originally known as Orland Pride, now renamed Orland Patriots, with former Orland City Councilman, former Glenn County Supervisor, and soon to be former Glenn County Superintendent of Schools Tracey Quarne in a leadership position, worked on the project for years.
The Memorial Day program began with a welcome and opening remarks by Tracey Quarne. This was followed by an invocation by Pastor Jason Ross.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Tom Fields of the Orland VFW Post #1992. The National Anthem was then sung by Lexi Velazquez.
“The Why” was recited by Hendrik Feenstra, and the flag was lowered to half-staff. The Glenn Chorale, with Mack Caywood directing, performed a salute to each of the armed services.
Phil Heuchert read the names of Orland’s fallen. After each name was recited, Wendell Lower rang a bell.

“Taps” was played by Riley Cloyd, and the flag was folded, again by Willows VFW Post #1770. Tracey Quarne presented the memorial to Orland VFW Post #1992, and it was received by Ernie Simpson of the Orland VFW.

Claire Arano introduced the Orland Patriots Committee, and Pastor Ross ended the formal event by delivering the benediction. After Stephanie Campbell invited the audience to stay for refreshments, the public began to mingle and chat.
